Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
With increasing urbanization on a global scale, cities become responsible for economic development, often struggling to provide access to housing and livable conditions. The percentage of population living in urban areas displays how urbanization grew over time pressuring the municipal facilities and housing systems. Limited access to public services, infrastructure and insufficient living space are linked to overcrowding, especially in lower-income areas. The map of households with none or one sleeping room shows the significant contrast in housing quality and overcrowding in certain regions, demonstrating unequal living conditions in fast-growing urban environments. While cities continue to grow, ensuring safe, resilient and sustainable environments remains a challenge for urban development worldwide.
