Goal 2: Zero Hunger
This goal aims to reach zero hunger, improve access to sufficient and nutritious food and promote sustainable agriculture. Due to recent political conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic, global hunger has increased since 2019, despite global efforts. The percentage of wasted, underweight and stunted children, demonstrates the gap in nutrition and food access, can be used to track the progress internationally and through time. While wasting and stunting seem similar, the first one reflects acute starvation from a recent event like an illness, while stunting is chronic and forms over a long period of time of malnutrition. Weight-for-height z-score indicates the number of standard deviations below or above the average weight for a specific height. This health data shows long- and short-term difficulties with proper nutrition access highlighting areas requiring more assistance.
