Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
This goal focuses on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies and ensuring effective governance. Strong institutions are important for sustainable development as they support proper allocation of public resources, fair laws and trustworthy public services and transparent decision-making. The Comprehensive Subnational Corruption Index (SCI) highlights differences across regions in terms of institutional quality and perceptions of corruption while additional indicators on grand and petty corruption provide further insights into the variation on different governance levels. Birth registration indicates the access to legal identity and basic administrative services that show how institutional coverage can differ within one country. All together, the data illustrates how quality of governance and access to basic services varies on a global scale.
