Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA)

The Adaptation Research Alliance believes that we need a new paradigm of action-orientated research to inform effective adaptation to reduce the risks from climate change, particularly for countries and communities that are most vulnerable – at the scale and urgency demanded by the science.

That is why as part of the UK COP26 Presidency Adaptation & Resilience campaign, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is working with partners to co-develop an international Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) for launch at COP26. The ARA is a global, collaborative effort to increase investment and opportunities for action research to develop/inform effective adaptation solutions.

Through diverse stakeholder partnerships and collaborations between funders, researchers and actors that make up the ARA membership, we will co-create, innovate, and find solutions that have tangible effects on people’s everyday lives. We believe that climate-vulnerable countries should not only become resilient – but that they should prosper. Together, we can drive the systemic change that is needed in climate research for this to happen, and ensure that research is radically collaborative, southern-led, and provides long-lasting, real-world solutions.
