WCS Marine Protected Area Fund

The WCS MPA Fund was launched in September 2016, with a goal of raising $15 million for MPA initiatives in 20 countries and instituting meaningful, lasting protections for critical marine habitats and threatened marine species on a global basis. Through the MPA Fund, WCS expects to create more than one million square kilometers (km 2 ) of new protected areas, and to specifically assist countries meet the United Nations target of protecting ten percent of their coastal and marine waters by 2020.
