COP29 Declaration on Enhanced Action in Tourism

The COP29 Declaration on Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism is a collective commitment by national governments, UN agencies, international organizations, and financial institutions to accelerate climate action within the tourism sector. Acknowledging tourism’s vulnerability to climate change and its significant contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions, the declaration emphasizes the sectors potential to drive both mitigation and adaptation efforts. It calls for integrating tourism into national climate policies such as NDCs and NAPs, and highlights the need for sustainable practices, clean technologies, and circular economy approaches. Special attention is given to supporting developing countries, especially SIDS and LDCs, where tourism is economically vital. The declaration underscores the importance of financing, technology transfer, and inclusive dialogue, reaffirming a shared commitment to building a low-carbon, climate-resilient future for global tourism.
