Performance of cooperative initiatives

Performance has decreased. We have assessed all transnational nature-based climate initiatives using a methodology which tracks outputs they produce. While our analysis shows a growing share of high-performing initiatives between 2013 and 2018 – since 2019 (for adaptation-focused) and 2020 (for mitigation-focused), the share of high and medium-high performance has decreased. We cannot yet fully explain this trend. Perhaps the negative impacts on performance are pandemic-related

Geography of where cooperative initiatives implement their activities (below)

We find a North-South imbalance in transnational cooperation. Most funders, lead positions, and participants are from OECD countries while more than half of all activity occurs in South countries. This raises questions as to the role played by the South in activities implemented in their countries: are benefits accruing to the people and communities, where they are most required?

Description: We note the countries where cooperative initiatives have implemented activities – or plan to implement in the future, mentioned in their reports or on their websites
